I Can't Think of a Better Title

Blast those pesky customers!

I bought a new phone this past week, mainly because I was sick of my old one. The old one, a Motorola T720, was showing it's age. The faceplate broke early on, and I was forced to buy one of those "substitute" faceplates. You know, the ones that fit the phone but aren't perfectly formed to it. The one I bought allowed dust and other crap to seep into the insides. In some attempt to make up for the sloppiness, I slapped on some Superman stickers. In time, those stickers accumulated their own dirt and started peeling away. The ringtones were monotheistic..monotonic..whatever and paled in comparison to the hip-hop tunes I was hearing in the store when someone's mom needed milk brought home. But the creme de la pot was the charger. From the get go, the phone charger was a feckin' bastard. The plug had to be inserted into the phone JUST the right way in order for it to charge. I can't tell you how many mornings I've woken up to find my phone uncharged from "charging" overnight. Usually I had to put a book on top of the damn thing, and I'm sure that wasn't good for the phone.

The new phone I purchased is polydiogstic..polymonisis...whatever so the ringtones sound great. I've already obtained a couple of neat ones. The charger is the type that firmly inserts itself into the phone, so no worries about that. Also, it has one of those cameras on it. Now, I know it's just a gimmick and I can't think of a good reason to have one, but I got it. Which means I can't take my phone down to the boats at Ft. Belvior. Je suis espion. However, it will come in handy at parties. Not that I go to much.

Still looking for that Scatman John ringtone.

The video class is going swell. Next week I'll be able to grab a camera of my own to do my own filming outside of class. Drew volunteered himself to be my first victim. I have the storyboards made up and I'm ready to go. The thing about making storyboards is that it's very similar to making comics, which I do occasionally anyway. Let the others struggle.

The sequel to the X-Men cartoon I linked to last week is already released, and is really really funny. Probably because it's so true. It's dedicated to the one X-Men character worth resurrecting, but will probably stay dead. Dark Pheonix Rising.

Finally, my new Batman Beyond shirt should arrive tomorrow. Mike wants my old one, but I can't imagine why.

Looking Beyond Part 2

Justice League Unlimited

This is a follow-up to my previous drawing. Looking at it again, it's one of those that could benefit from adding color. Props to anyone who can name the characters.

I'll have a post later tonight, rest assured.

Looking Beyond

Batman

I drew the picture above last night and finished it up today. In my opinion it's the best pic I've done for the site so far. I've never drawn Batman before, so I guess I did it for two reasons.

One: To see if I could.

Two: I enjoy the character.

I've mentioned to Mike my surprise that this version of the character never appeared in comics, aside from the comic adaption of the TV show. After all, Harley Quinn, a character from Batman: The Animated Series, never appeared in comics, but was found so popular that she was integrated into the DC Comics Universe. In an experimental move, the creators of that show started a series called Batman Beyond that takes place 40 years in the future Gotham City. The move payed off. Terry McGinnis, the show's Batman that I drew, may be considered equally popular, had a 52 episode series about him, and has yet to appear in the DCU.

Mike says he prefers it that way. I can see his point, with no continuity to get in the way, stemming off of original ideas in a different direction, not to be hampered. They got the character right once, so why risk messing it up?

Though the series ended, and an awesome DVD released movie was made, he still makes appearances in other shows, like Static Shock and recently, Justice League Unlimited. I still don't think we've seen the last of him. At least I hope not.

It's also fun to walk around in my Batman Beyond shirt. Some people recognize it and remember a great series and a great character. The others are missing out.

Deux Ex Machina

PAT v.1 Issue 11

Ahh, the obligatory Wolverine crossover. It was bound to happen sometime.

For a representation of what X-Men comics are like nowadays, I've found a funny animation that pretty much sums it up. What happens when a revolutionary writer leaves a franchise during a critically-acclaimed run, and the editors don't understand it? This.

Oh, in the mail today the Army was nice enough to send me recruiting "devices" so I can sign all my friends up. But they mysteriously caught on fire. Honest.

People Like Blogs With Pictures

DDR!

Well, it's been tested. If you rely solely on Dance Dance Revolution for fitness, you won't pass an army PT test. Yup, I'm a failure. I'm out of shape, according to Army standards. The shame!!!

Okay that's out of my system. Classes have been good so far. The online course is working out okay, all one needs is a little motivation and you can get it done. The portfolio review class makes me nervous though. I need a lot of my art work from all my previous art classes, which can be difficult because all of the best work from my Drawing II class is missing. I lost it when I was activated two year ago. Also, my work will be reviewed by the harshest critics. Whenever my work is critiqued like that, I sweat. And shudder.

Mike is pwning me.

I wanted to point out a neat little commercial from Thailand I found. Some of you have probably already seen it as it made it's rounds on the internet, because it's so perfect.

My video class is looking fun. I completed my first "movie" yesterday and it's enjoyable. It may become a second hobby of mine. All I need is a $3000 camera and a software program that most likely costs a lot. When I film for the class, I'll need people. Any volunteers? Paul already has!

Thursday night was bloody. I'm not saying anything more about it.

Mandie and I

Friday I did the DDR thing with my friends. I always have fun with these guys. That's where the pics are from, courtesy of Mandie. Big thanks to her!

I also wanted to mention Jon and Katie's housewarming/Jon's birthday party the previous week, which was also good fun. I ran into Danny, who collaborated with me on the Savoy comic (he thinks we're going to Hell for that). We started talking politics, and was astounded to find I wasn't a supporter of the current administration. I asked him why was he surprised, and he said because I was in the Army. I was oddly satisfied when he realized I was more of a liberal kinda guy, and he felt a little relieved, but it's funny how he (and not just him) assume that I lean right when I really lean left. When they find out, they seem more relaxed. Heh.

I didn't watch the Super Bowl. Just another game to me. I watched the commercials the next day online.

Finally, I understand how frustrating it is to see a favorite website un-updated for a long period. On those nights where you're surfing your bookmarks and you run out of places to visit, then decide to visit Super Pat Quest, only to find out it's the same old post on there. Sorry 'bout that, I'll try harder to appease the masses.
