Video Killed The Radio Star

Anybody know what happened to WHFS 99.1 FM ? It was an alternative-rock station and now....spanish music. The change was so abrupt it caught everyone by surprise. I haven't listened to the radio at all lately (or watched much TV) but still, what's the deal?

I guess playing Linkin Park three times an hour wasn't such a good idea...

  1. Yep. Apparently they couldn't compete with DC 101 so the owner sold them to the spanish station. They told no one (the public that is). Apparently at 12 on the day of the switch they played a song called "last goodbye" and then there were a few moments of silence before the spanish station took over. Apparently they have been having problems keeping a good audience and whatnot.

  2. Ahem. Also, the people who owned the late 99.1 also own 98 rock. 98 rock is better and makes more money, this coupled with dc101 having a wider listener base caused them to fold the station and give it to the totally sweet ethnic people who now own the station. I've actually listened to a few of the songs, and some are quite enjoyable.

  3. Actually, I gave it a listen too and I have to agree. It's not as bad as the rabid HFS fans lead people to believe. I was just surprised at how sudden the change was.
